WHERE ARE WE?

Meathop, Grange-over-Sands, Cumbria. LA11 6RB

The Woodlands at Meathop is barely 15 minutes from Junction 36 on the M6 and 6 miles from Newby Bridge at the foot of Lake Windermere.

Exit the M6 at junction 36 and head toward Windermere. After 3 miles, take the exit marked A590 to Barrow-in-Furness and Grange-over-Sands. After a further 8 miles, at a small roundabout, take the first exit which is marked to Grange-over-Sands. Immediately on the left is a country lane signposted to Meathop. Take this and continue for one mile at which time you will see signs for the Woodlands Hotel & Pine Lodges.

Grange-over-Sands is one of the few small seaside towns in England that has remained relatively unspoiled by the march of time. It first became popular in the Victorian age when the rich and well-heeled travelled from the grime of Manchester, Liverpool and other large centres of population to enjoy the peace, tranquility and fresh sea air. The town has managed to avoid becoming caught up in the usual proliferation of tacky tourist attractions that one normally associates with many English seaside towns, and therefore won`t appeal to those looking for amusement arcades, Kiss-me-Quick hats and burger bars. In fact, it is the perfect base for those looking for a chance to savour a slower pace of life combined with olde worlde charm (the ancient little market village of Cartmel is ony 2 miles away with its medieval Prory, quaint pubs and lovely square) There is a wonderful mile-long promenade, unchanged since the 1800`s, well-maintained gardens & parks along with a selection of little shops and cafes where one can browse and relax. There are numerous lovely walks in the area. A leisurely stroll to the top of Hampsfell will reward you with breathtaking views across the Bay to Silverdale. Being only 10 minutes from Lake Windermere, you have the best of all worlds:

Great accommodation without the usual hordes plus all the great activities and scenery the Lake District has to offer. Grange is the ideal destination if you really want to get away from it all and go home refreshed.

No wonder Bill Bryson described it as one of his top 6 favourite place to visit in England.
